Septic to Sewer Connections

Septic to Sewer Hookups

Kelowna has been busy! Major areas of the city are constantly upgrading sewer infrastructure for a cleaner, greener future, enabling residents on septic systems to connect directly to the city sewer. If you are currently on septic and your area now has access to the city sewer, we can help you connect.

Rockhard Excavating has been connecting septic to sewer throughout the Okanagan for 2 decades, we bring with us a low-impact efficient solution tailored to each property's particular requirements for minimal infringement. We handle the entire connection process, from the initial assessment to final connection and deactivation of your old septic tank.

Why Convert Septic to Sewer?

Converting to a sewer system enhances property value, reduces environmental impact, and eliminates common issues associated with aging septic tanks.

Initial Consultation

The process begins with a meet and greet, that quick initial consultation where we will work with you to assess your specific property and identify any hurdles or areas to pay extra attention to. During this time, we will also explain the entire process from start to finish so that you are entirely aware of what is about to happen. This allows us to be upfront and address any potential concerns right from the start.

Permits and Inspectors

Next, we will ensure that all the proper permits are in order so that all the work complies with local regulations. At this time, we will also arrange for any required inspections throughout the process.

Preparing for our arrival

  1. Let everyone know: Inform all household members about the upcoming work and potential disruptions.
  2. Planning for Downtime: There may be periods when drainage and sewer services are temporarily unavailable. We will work with you on the exact timing to minimize intrusion; however, if no downtime is not an option, you may need to source alternative bathroom facilities if needed.
  3. Clearing the Work Area: We have some large machinery coming in so it helps in being proactive in removing any obstacles or valuables from the areas where excavation and installation will take place.
  4. Emptying your existing septic tank: In order for us to do our work and connect your home's septic system to the new city sewer, you will need to have your septic tank pumped out. Once the old tank is empty, the inspectors will also need to visually confirm the tank is clear before we are allowed to fill it in and decommission it.

Excavating the trench

We will dig trenches for the new sewer lines, ensuring they are at the correct depth and slope for proper drainage.

Connecting to the New Sewer System

Without getting too complicated this portion of the project can vary from job to job, however the basics remain the same.

  1. Disconnecting the Old Septic TankWe will cut and cap the pipes leading to and from the old septic tank to prevent any future contamination or leaks.
  2. Sewer Line InstallationWe will install and securely connect the new sewer pipes in the prepared trenches to ensure reliable, leak-free operation.
  3. Connection to the Main City Sewer LineWe will connect the new sewer lines to the municipal sewer system, ensuring proper linkage to the town's infrastructure for safe waste removal.

Backfilling and Restoration

After the sewer lines are installed, connected and inspected, we will fill in the trenches. Layer by layer to ensure proper compaction to prevent future settling and sagging. From there it's just a matter of restoring your landscaping as you have requested during the initial consultation.

Finalization

Before we wrap things up we take the time to walk the property with you to ensure you are completely satisfied with the results.
